What's really true when it comes to all the old wives' tales about how to care for your tresses?
Myth 1: Frequent trims make hair grow faster Hair grows a half-inch each month, whether you cut it or not. So nope, frequent hair trims will not make your hair grow faster! One thing it does – it eliminates split ends, making hair look better and preventing breakage.
Myth 2: You can fix split ends with the right products. Once they’re split, then that’s it. The only thing you can do it cut them off. To prevent split ends, always make sure hair is moisturized.
Myth 3: If you pluck out one grey hair, two more will sprout in its place. While this isn’t true, plucking out those grey strands is nevertheless a horrible habit! You can damage the roots, causing infection or leaving a scar.
Myth 4: Rinsing with cold water will give you shinier hair. It might wake you up, but a dousing of cold water unfortunately will have no effect on the shininess of your tresses.
Myth 5: You should brush your hair 100 strokes every day. This old adage isn’t just useless; it could actually harm your hair. Brush only to style it, because brushing pulls hairs out of their follicles and possibly weakens individual strands.
