Why Does My Perfume Smell Different

You might have experienced this: The perfume that you fell in love with and bought from the store smells different when you reach home.
Also, why does the same perfume smell different on different people? Find out what exactly is causing the change in the way your perfume smells.
Your perfume has turned bad.
Generally, perfumes usually have a maximum shelf life of 3 to 5 years when stored properly. As there is no fixed expiry date, this makes it hard for people to determine the condition of the perfumes. If your perfume has changed into a darker colour or there is a sour scent, it is highly possible that your perfume has turned bad.
Everyone is unique.
Everyone has a unique body chemistry and pH balance. The differing acidity level on different people’s skin causes the scent to rest and smell differently. In addition, sweat, hormones, skin type and other factors will also contribute to the scent. This is why the perfume that smells good on your friend does not smell good on you and vice versa.
Your perfume has been reformulated.
It is common for perfumes to be reformulated these days. This is because some ingredients are rare or have even become extinct. They are replaced with other ingredients that are widely and readily available. Also, in order to cut costs, some expensive ingredients are substituted by cheaper ones. You may not be able to find the scent that you once love though it is the same perfume.
The strength of perfume.
The duration that a perfume can last depends on the strength of the perfume. The lightest will be Eau de Cologne, which can last for about 2 to 3 hours. Eau de Toilette can last for about 4 hours and Eau de Parfum can last for about 6 hours. The heaviest will be Parfum, which can last up to 24 hours.
Some tips:
Keep your perfume in a cool, dry and dark place for them to last longer!
Perfumes usually come in sample sizes. Feel free to request for one so that you can test on your skin before you make a decision to buy a bottle. We would recommend you to leave it on for at least a day to see how it reacts with your body chemistry.
As perfumes smell different on different people, don’t choose a perfume just because it smells good on your friend. Find your own signature scent!
