Makeup Tutorial: Baking
This has been the year of professional makeup techniques blowout, as makeup artists and beauty bloggers revealed exclusive makeup tips never before previously shared with the public. One thing’s for sure, all that contouring, strobing and non-touring have allowed us to experiment with the very reaches of makeup techniques and has definitely done favours to the cosmetics industry. Today we’re demonstrating a new makeup application technique that’s taking the beauty world by storm, baking makeup.
Baking makeup has been used in the industry and by drag queens for years now. With this technique, you “bake” your concealer by applying products and allowing them to sit on your skin before blending in a way that provides a smooth coverage and also highlights important facial features. It’s like contouring and highlighting, but taken to the next level!
Here’s what you’ll need:
1. Translucent powder

2. Pressed powder

3. A fluffy eyeshadow brush

Next up, the last thing that you need to master the baking technique is the Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer. It lightens, brightens and evens out the skin tone under the eyes.
Here’s how it’s done in 5 simple steps:
1.You’ll want to start off with a clean and well moisturised base, so apply a hydrating eye cream to smooth out your skin and to reduce any visible fine lines. Apply a thick concealer to your under eye area, starting at the apples of your cheeks, applying the concealer in swift, upward motions. Blend your concealer in with a damp sponge.
2.Next, apply more concealer. Yes, the more the merrier when it comes to concealer application with the baking technique! A sheer concealer will give you a smooth and flawless finish, locking in the layer you previously applied. Blend your concealer in well with a damp sponge, making sure you cover any lines or cracks.
3.Take your fluffy eyeshadow brush and dust a layer of translucent powder over your concealer. This is an important stage in the baking process that shouldn’t be missed as it will help to set your base.
4.Now for the baking part! Take a makeup sponge and dampen it with setting spray. Dip your sponge into the translucent powder you applied in step 3. This will help to pack your translucent powder. Leave your concealer and powder to “bake” for 5 to 10 minutes, then sweep the translucent powder off of your skin using your fluffy eyeshadow brush.
5.Finally, take your fluffy eyeshadow brush and lightly dust a pressed powder over the area to add more coverage and to blend away any harsh edges.
There you have it, your concealer is baked and your skin is now ready for you to apply the rest of your makeup! Bare in mind that the above routine isn’t necessarily restricted to your under eye area. Treat baking as a highlighting technique and apply the process to other parts of your face that you’d like to highlight, including your cheekbones, jawline, forehead and the bridge of your nose.
